ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes!

ChristieOne thing in life is consistent- change.  I know.  Cliché right?  Nonetheless change is what has been going on in my life.  In one week (in May) I doubled the number of children I have in giving birth to my 2nd child, my husband got a new job, our church responsibilities changed and I quit my 9-5 job.  I blinked, and suddenly I didn’t recognize my own life!

Christies_scraproom_3In times of change you know what I find comforting?  The things that don’t change.  The smell of the grass as I sit on my porch.  My Bathtub.  The taste of chocolate.  The feel of clean sheets at the end of the day.  And, of course, my scrap room.  My blessed consistently messy scrap room.  Even when I don’t have the energy to breathe, just looking at it and knowing that it’s there for me when I’m ready is comforting.  So bring on the change I guess.  At the end of the day you can pretty much guarantee that I’ll be sitting up to my desk- glue dots and paper trimmer in hand- working on something (probably classes for YOU) or I’ll at least be wishing that I were.  And that my fellow scrappers, will never change.

I’d love your comments!  What are your “comforts” in times of change?  Better yet, document it on a fabulous page!  May I suggest the Basic Grey “Perhaps” line?  It’s totally gorgeous!

Hugs,
Christie

Heritage Scrapbooking

Nicole_2When I am creating a layout, I often think about who will eventually look at the layout, the story I want to tell, and the message that will be shared with future generations. Scrapbooking really helps me to connect with my family in a special way. Recently, I have found that my heart has turned to past generations as well.

Thanks to digital technology, we have multitudes of pictures to document the stories of our lives. With heritage scrapping, we have few photos--maybe even just one photo or possibly none at all--to represent an ancestor. Therefore, we must utilize our creativity to tell their stories. Here are some items to include in a heritage scrapbook: family trees, lots of journaling, letters, journal entries, recounted memories from different living family members, old newspaper articles, ephemera, photos of prized possessions that are too large to actually go inside an album, photographs of places (old homes, schools, etc.) and other memorabilia. Part of the fun of putting together a heritage album is hunting for information and clues about our ancestors.

Even without an abundance of photos, heritage albums can be fun and interesting. There are many beautiful heritage themed papers and embellishments on the market now. So, in honor of Pioneer Day I challenge you to make a heritage layout. If you aren't up to making a layout, gather information, interview a grandparent, take a four generation photo, or make a family tree for your children to see.

I hope you are inspired to try heritage scrapbooking. I know I am going to set a goal to get a four generation portrait done with my four grandparents down to my 2 beautiful boys. What are your goals? Any other ideas or comments are welcomed!

Chocolate Zucchini Bread

HelenSummer is here!  Could it be any hotter?  If you planted ZUCCHINI you probably have a couple
weeks before your counter is covered with zucchini and they are expanding to the table.  You
know there is someone out there that would love some FREE zucchini----you just have to find them.  While you're searching why not make some Chocolate Zucchini Bread.  Is not chocolate
one of our favorite things right up there with Scrapbooking.  Why not have some friends or
family over to scrapbook and enjoy some Chocolate Zucchini Bread.  They may enjoy the bread
so much they will take some zucchini home.

                   Chocolate Zucchini Bread
3 eggs                          2 cup grated zucchini
1/4 tsp. baking powder    2  bars (1 oz. ea.) baking chocolate
1 cup salad oil                3 cups flour
1 tsp. vanilla                  1 tsp. salt
2 cups sugar                  1 tsp. soda

Beat eggs till lemon color.  Beat in sugar and oil.
Melt chocolate and stir into egg mixture with vanilla and zucchini.
Add all other ingredients.
Pour into greased and floured loaf pan.
Bake at 350* - l hour.  Do not over bake.
May add 1/2 cup chopped walnuts.

Makes 2 loaves

If you need a break from the baking and heat just stop by the store.  We have a new Make 'N Take every week.  Remember most days the class room is available to use.  And it's nice and cool at the store.  I Look forward to seeing you there.

Another place for tips and tricks

Amber_2As you read this post, I am "trekking" on the plains of Wyoming.  I couldn't leave you and not post anything while I'm gone, so I wanted to give you a couple more places to go for tips, tricks, ideas and quotes ... whatever you might need to overcome the dreaded "scrapper's block"!

Be sure to check out our teacher's blogs (links are on the left).  They also have a lot of good ideas!  Have a good week!  I'll check back in a couple of days (if I've survived, that is!)

Technique Video

AmberI was browsing CreatingKeepsakes.com today and saw some that they've added some new videos.  I thought you might like to see them also.  Here's the link to the videos.

One of my favorite videos is the beaded staples, not because it is the most practical tip, but because it's one of the most inventive tips I've seen in a while.  How about we all try it this week?  Let me know which tip is your favorite and if you use the beaded staple tip!

Travel File Folder

AmberOur cute Pam has taught a file folder class the past few quarters.  She is not teaching one this quarter and the store has a few of them to sell, so I thought I'd come up with another spin on her fun class.

My idea is to use the file folder as a place to keep all those brochures you pick up while on vacation.  I don't know about you, but for some compelling reason, I feel the NEED to keep them.  Why?  I'm not sure, but I have a stash of them somewhere.  I thought that if there is a place you visit more than once, add a paper and write the dates of each visit.

I used the new Making Memories Travel line along with Heidi Swapp Bling Lines (red) and Basic Grey swirl rub-ons.

We hope you enjoy yourself this travel season!  Amber and All My Memories!
